Fabrics
Finding a fabric for your next suit, jacket or overcoat couldn't be easier with fabrics from the well known cloth merchants such as Dormeuil, Holland & Sherry, Scabal and Loro Piana, to the relatively unknown but beautiful collections from Yorkshire based merchants Bateman & Ogden and Dugdales.
How wool is graded
The vast majority of luxurious wools, for instance Super 100's - Super 200's come from Australian merino sheep fleeces, in-fact Holland & Sherry have named a number of their bunches "Snowy River" this being the best area in Australia for where the merino lambs are being raised.
What determines the grading of wool is the micron count, for instance a Super 150's should have a micron count of between 15.25 - 15.8 microns (the average diameter of the actual fibre) a micron equalling 1 millionth of a metre, therefore a super 200's would have been spun finer and the micron count would be even lower, basically the higher the grade the finer the wool is.
However the defining factor in choosing the correct fabric for what you want your suit for is the weight of the cloth, most Super 100's - 200's merino's are only 7-10 oz and a second pair of trousers is advisable for a work suit.
We recommend 12-14 oz English worsteds for work as they are more robust and wear & travel better, interestingly they are the most inexpensive!
